A story about a farm girl.

Milking Girl

Poor daughter of the country corn where do you weep?
Rouged by the solace’s inferno your hands chapped by toil
And your eyes shut bleeding tears of pressured masculinity
Poor daughter of the country your face is a rainbow
Bloody land does not give up tasks not even on the sabbath
Endless calamity conquers your quest of seeking womanhood
Oh milking girl, don’t give up your fight
But your father, arthritis ridden, just needs you around
If you leave the farm you’ll place him in the grave
Your mother was like you as was your grandmother
It is a brave person who will break tradition
Generation after generation will place their scorn on you
If you leave
Where is the man robed in platinum everybody promised you?
He hasn’t come marching up your road with his sweet talking voice
Take a look at your father
Unkempt, uncouth, uneducated with dirty fingernails
He’s all your mother was able to have
Your mother’s ghost is plagued by never touching the hand of a handsome man
And don’t you think yourself different
No one will marry you for beauty, they’ll marry you for your strong working hands
But amidst your rough exterior there shines through a red rose
The only man able to see this petal of love will be the man you marry
Oh milking girl frustration will be all your motives
But be thankful for what you are blessed with
A rural life, the faces of Nature, the ability to hear the voice of the Almighty
The land is beautiful
The sun your guardian
The air your messenger
The fragrances of the wildflowers your life
God has placed you on serene pastures.
