Twilight Regret
By La Belle Rouge

i regret youth’s foolish fantasies
and life’s tragic mistakes
i am sorry it took too long
to love myself enough
to realize it wasn’t all my fault

i regret that never in this life
have i seen green shores of erin
the heavy snow lay thick
like whipped cream atop the alps
and sunset’s crimson fire on pyramids

i cry sometimes because
i never looked into his eyes
touched his hand, kissed his lips
i regret the way time rushed by
leaving us only feelings and words

i feel remorse that the music played
but we never danced cheek to cheek
nor torched the long cold nights
with fire ignited by lovers’ hearts
and quenched only by blended flesh

yes i have my regrets
some i have never revealed at all
some i never had to reveal to him
for we shared them together
a world away, i regret... so far away

...perhaps to have regret...mourning will cease...when twilight offers a different morning...somewhere behind the Sun...somewhere your words takes us...somewhere we cannot hide.

Good write, but regrets are in the past and this is telling us to go on to the future too, yesterday is never forgotten and we really cannot do it over again, although sometimes we might want to. It is a good meaningful poem and is such a great write. Good thinking on your part too. **********

Still grabbing and ripping out the heart I see! And you do it so well. Just hope it's not yours that's tearing.
Regrets are like the teaspoon of cod liver oil that Mom or Grandma gave us for acting bad or whining too much. We had no choice but to take it..whether it done any good or not, who knows!
One day at a time..and just hope and pray tomorrow gets here with a sweeter taste.

Great write Belle!

What a combination you offer us: a most wonderful and emotion-filled poem; the music; the artwork. An offering almost like a prayer of revelation, LaBelle...

I think how many of us weren't really "taught" to love ourselves. Isn't it sad? Parents should do so early in a child's life. But if the parents have problems... Good write but also we move Karla says... new and good things are round the corner...

Powerfully penned, La Belle, but you can't spend your life regretting what could have been - well done - you know how to get to the heart and soul of the matter in your poetry.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Lovely and touching write, no more regrets, do that dance cheek to cheek, do let one more day go by without saying what's in your heart. We cannot do anything about the yesterdays but we can certainly control tomorrows. Lovely write, Love, Bonnie

Tender nostalgia that brings a lump to the throat thinking of all that may have been but can no longer have that chance, I know we should not regret our past mistakes or omissions but in reality if we have hearts we will have regrets. Hugs

I relate too well to this poem. Tears I have plenty of along with the regrets. I try to tell myself that to have regrets means I have lived, which is the case some of the time. So much of what you wrote I too feel. Excellent poem, now I think I will go read feeling frisky again. Liz

Bylines and timelines...I'm certain that the real time database of love we collect during our Twilight Regret expedition in life is an opportunity, at our age now, to finally realize there has come a chance to really see what's out there...and yes, true love only comes around once in a lifetime, Belle...we must never silence our shooting lives in the firelight...
