Sometimes our eyes are blinded by our heart.

Feather soft, your touch
Remembered by my skin
In warm camaraderie
Closer than my kin

Feather soft, your hair
Curls white against my hands
Memory serves up brown
To coat the faded strands

Feather soft, your skin
As on our wedding day
Though time has made it thin
And the color’s gone away

Feather soft, your breath
Has left you oddly still
If you had said, “Come, love.”
I’d say, “Of course I will.”

Feather soft, the tear
That falls down as I cry
Long years we’ve been together
It’s hard to say good-bye.
