I received a birthday gift on my birthday, a butterfly sign to keep writing Poetry. It was a dead butterfly that found it way into a box I had stored in a closed basement garage. I had looked inside the box the day before
and it was not there. Depressed on my birthday, I wrote about a butterfly and how it got in my box when the doors were closed puzzles me. To some it is nothing, to me a gift, the only one I received.

Surprise Birthday Blues Butterfly

Birthday blessing in depression’s big surprise,

Writing on a “Birthday Blessed Blues” poem line:

“On rainbow butterflies dancing wildflowers.”

Later to have someone find a dead butterfly

Among personal things in a closed garage basement.

Butterfly laying flat, as if, just mounted for show,

One side perfect, the other slightly torn.

Poet’s car contents on a temporary storage floor

Upon friends giving a Poet a home from bills

From motels in surviving, ones forced retirement.

Box, where the day before, nothing was there,

On a Birthday, a Poet receives a dead butterfly.

So special a gift in a divine sign to fight on

For those dancing wildflowers poetic dreams

Writing lines of two sides of De-Termination.

Oh poet, spread one’s wings and fly the words

One wing may be flawed, but it is flying so proud.

So must the Poet, having been blessed in a sign

That birthday depressions of weathering age.

Create sunshine, where they can dance Free Spirited.

Oh butterfly, inside a special keepsake small box.

Join me on my journey of inner flight verse, where

Somewhere in America not on company time;

One can find that American Artmosphere’s tranquility

Where Liberal HeArts Beats sing on

Freedom ‘n Democracy,

Star spangled banner ‘n

Free Speech writing.

Yes, butterfly fly with me in spirit

That somewhere above my HeArt

Another has blessed a child of verse

That in a world of Kitchen Sink prose

Diplomacy that Poetry can instead create love.

Sounds like a new adventure in optimism is about to begin. Subtle expressions of reserved happiness, well done...

Be always safe,
