Mine (As you lay dying)

"Mine" that is what my Mom calls my Dad, I've heard of "Darling", "Honey" etc, my mom's was simply "Mine" I wrote this for my Mom, she called me this evening and her voice said it all--he refuses to eat, cries uncontrollably due to the pain(Never seen my dad cry)...and I know she'd do anything to have him healthy again and by her side.

Dedicated to a woman who loved/loves a man, My mother Diana.

You are mine
a first love that lasted
to the very end
you were, are
always mine
to love, to hold
and behold
to cherish above all things good
I'll still hang up your suit
shine your shoes
help you do your tie
watch you shave
you I crave
My strong man
stronger than a pillar of salt
eat my food
will you not?
share my life
will you not?
walk with me
will you not?
this heart
to this heart
you brought so much joy
these hands
which promised to love you
these hands that brought you so much joy
keep them busy
will you not?
fill my nights
will you not?
dress my lips
will you not?
I have known your forever
you have tasted mine
and even as you lay dying
you teach me again what love should be
a promise I've kept
since I first met you
a promise of a young  and innocent maiden
who gave her heart away one starry night
this bond will never end
this unity can never be broken
and no true r place have you
ever belonged
than in this space
Mine....

(When it comes to love, death is powerless)

Though the Power of Love conquers all 'out of time' it is still so hard to watch Love Ones die, even if given hospice or modern medicines. This is a fine tribute to their love and I ask "The Creator" who I am sure will be by your Dad's side in this. It is the one time we all face "Alone" with God. I know when my Dad was dying in 2003 the last day before he went under, he was pointing to what I believe was an angel or even Jesus (by the look on his face) who came to help him. You couldn't know by his words because due to Alzheimer's he could only make giberish with his mouth. But he wrote down bible sayings as prayers on little cards all his life - so I knew who had finally come to ease his suffering...

A breathtakingly beautiful tribute to their love, Bernice. There is a place that cannot be filled, that waits for reunion to be whole again. Poems like this will be a continual comfort in your and your Mother's time of need. God bless you and your family--I will pray for you all.

The immortal hero Wesley said: Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while...

I believe that. Maybe not even really delay it--

Heart-breaking, emotive offering here, Bernice. God bless you. I hope He holds you gently while you sleep. --Charlie

Love Songs should have this poem as a parameter to have the sincerity sound that goes hand in hand with that kind of awe that make us to have a little of envy...but a good one.

Very emotional write but done with sensitivity and love not only your mother's but your own shines through. Very well done and again I am sure your mother and step father both will appreciate and maybe ease both of their burdens even if only for a short time.
