                                                One Fine Fall Day
The fat, wild geese will leave me soon,
                                    initiate their noisy exodus.
A brown tweed chain, they waddle
                                    through the rustling autumn colours
and slice into the speckled autumn sky.
                                    This flight’s a practice run.
Tomorrow when their bags are packed,
                                    they’ll say their last goodbyes
                                    to summer.
                                    I can’t afford the trip,
                                    though God in heaven knows
                                    I wish I could.
I wonder, watching in my third floor flat,
if I'll survive the colours of this fall.
