TIME’S NOT A BIRD
Had a new grandchild just the other day
Talked to my son and congratulated him
“But aside from the child” I asked my son,
“How is life treating you?”
“You really want me to answer that?” he cried.
“Let me tell you how it goes.” I’m overworked,
I’m underpaid, I hate my job and have a mortgage to pay!”
Time had slipped my mind; he was no longer a wise
cracking teen. He was now a man with heavy responsibilities
Time’s not a bird.
I went shopping with my daughter and her teen.
My grandchild saw an outfit she just had to have,
She begged her Mom, “oh, please?”
Her Mom put down her foot and said, “no way
will you wear that. You’ll look like a clown,
and no daughter of mine will ever be caught
in something like that!”
My granddaughter cried “you’re so old fashioned!
I bet Grandma was never so mean!”
My mind flew back to yesterday, this conversation was déjà vu.
For when her Mom was a teen, I told her the same thing too.
Time’s not a bird.
And I also remember the now grown teen when she was only three
She wouldn’t leave me alone and kept climbing on my knee.
“Read, grandma, read!” she cried. She handed a book to me.
It was a Dr. Seuss “Cat in the Hat”.
I read it so many times; she memorized it,
and read it right back to me!
Time flies and so does a bird
But when a bird flies high,
It comes back again.
When time flies… it’s gone for good.
