On the black
marble table top

at the base
of the tall translucent vase

decorated in subtle
swirls of purple,

lies the petal
of a long stemmed

yellow rose,

reminder that beauty,
wrote Keats,

is truth,
and truth, I discern,

as fragile as a yellow
rose petal.

Beautiful yellow rose, peace to come, favorite color of mine, yellow, just enduring you to me and finding out I have to read more of your writes, but now dinnertime and hungry too. Wish I had a yellow rose in vase on the table. My hubby Tom who died Aug 17 07 always gave me a yellow rose on occasions such as anniv and birthday knowing I liked yellow so mucy. Summertime is hear and the roses are blooming of all colors. Nice write and fascinating too.

So so true...
I love the softness that surrounds your poetry. Some might think it would make it weak, but rather its softness makes it all the stronger and carries it easily to the heart.

Great expressive verse Gene, you always put in enough mystery to make your verse shine, then you keep it understandable, I gave my wife a yellow rose, thought it was different. Reminds me of your verse, different and very poetic

Gene, reading this is like allowing a butter mint to slowly melt in your mouth as you take in the greatness of the taste. This is what I call beautiful!

A beautiful poem full of imagery and truths... well done.

...this has such a beautifully rendered delicacy to it; as if we are waiting for those petals [of truth] to fall from grace. .. truth...such a easily breakable bendable thing and so hard ot find these days; caught myself holding my breath....reminds me of "Into the WIld" as well.
again, beautifully rendered and such classical tone and aesthetics [the imagery and the stylings]

Flowering poetry like this that is well-watered and nurtured with care is as precious as truth. Yellow Petal is so much more friendly than a forbidding barrier of deceitful thorns. Very visual in your descriptions, I see the yellow rose in its vase, as soft and beautiful like all of Beethoven's nine symphonies in stone and magic light. Be well always Gene.
