Though written in first-person, this poem is very fictional. To quote something Jill once said about me, "I'm as 'loyal' as a dog."

I wanted to write a poem to express the remorse I think men should feel when they are not true to their loved ones; first-person seemed the easiest way. No woman deserves the pain associated with a man's infidelity, just as no man deserves it, if the roles are reversed. Life's too short and true love is too precious a blessing to risk wasting.

I am a lost and lonely man
I’ve made a huge mistake
I’ll repent the best way I can
Yet, her heart I will break
I do not know how best to share
The damage I have done
The grief I feel is everywhere
I’ve hurt my lovely one
I came before the darkness
I did not know where to turn
I struggled in the silence
You would think by now I’d learn
Into the arms of another
I allowed myself to fall
Leading me to hurt, none other
Than the one who’s loved through all
I am a lost and lonely man
I so deserve my pain
I’ll pray somewhere within God’s plan
I’ll reach her heart again
I’ll be alone, if this I must
Mounds of anguish, galore
Longing, someday, to earn her trust
The way I did before

Its nice to "stumble" into this at a time Mr Woods is having his time in the media for the wrong reasons. But it did afford me a platform to seat and absolve the whole essence of this poetry. Its well fitting and I wish Mr Woods can find some healing from the lines.."I so deserve my pain
Iíll pray somewhere within Godís plan
Iíll reach her heart again"

You're right about one thing --- life is too short. It's hard enough to keep one person happy, sometimes. And, yes, you're as loyal as a dog, I know! ;-)
Take care,
