Inspired By, and Dedicated To,

My Ancient Ed Brother,

Georg Edvard Mateos,

And His Recent Poem,

Brother Ed’s Fool’s Gold

My two very Ancient Brothers Ed

Always recall things differently than me

That night in that old bar up in the Yukon

I remember Edvard singing with such glee

Of course, he was trying to impress the barmaid

And he insisted that old Jersey Ed and I sing, too

I recall Edvard jumping up on the stage with bravado

And he started belting out a wacky Monty Python tune

(Edvard’s Spoken Intro)

“I never wanted to be a Prospector in the first place...

I wanted to be... A LUMBERJACK!

Leaping from tree to tree as they float down the mighty rivers of the Yukon!

The Fir! The Larch! The Mighty Scots Pine!

The Giant Redwood! The Sequoia!

The Plucky Little Aspen!

With my best girl by my side, we'd sing, sing, sing!”

(Edvard Singing)

Oh, I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay,

I sleep all night, and I work all day.

Jersey and Pee Wee Chorus:

Why, he's a lumberjack, and he's okay,

He sleeps all night, and he works all day!

Edvard:

I cut down trees, and then I eat my lunch,

On Sunday mornins, I like a little brunch!

On Wednesdays, I always go shopping,

And I have some buttered scones with tea.

Jersey and Pee Wee Chorus:

He cuts down trees, then he eats his lunch,

On Sunday mornins, he has some brunch?

And on Wednesdays, he goes shopping,

And he has some buttered scones with tea?

Huh??!!

Edvard:

I cut down trees, I skip and I jump,

I like to pick those little wild flowers,

In fact, I like to pick a real big bunch!

Jersey and Pee Wee Chorus:

He cuts down trees, he skips and he jumps,

He really likes to pick those little wild flowers,

In fact, he always picks a really big, big bunch??!!

The Barmaid:

“Oh, Edvard! You are so rugged, and so romantic!”

Edvard:

“Yes, I Know.

And Now,

Back to the Woods,

We Ancient Eds Will Go!”

So, We Went.

That’s my story,

And I’m stickin to it!

I could hear the harmony. Edvard, you can fool part of the girls some of the time, but you can't fool all the girls all the time. I know because I knew a girl once on a log, in a stream.....Jerry
