She looked at the water
lapping gently upon the shore
her thoughts seemed to follow
the mesmerizing ebb and flow

she smiled with contentment
knowing this was what she needed
to stem the emotional turmoil of not
being able to get him out of her mind

Their relationship hung by the finest
of threads.,so ephermeral,she wondered
if it lived  only in her mind and heart
and why didn't he cut it off completely

Instead his one or two words of response
that told her things were changing, to hang
on,kept her doing just that, but she felt the
thread would break any moment

What is this reluctance in us that hates to
let go, even when we know it is inevitable,
she thought of years of hanging on,like the
ebb and flow of the water, goes on forever

The realization hit her that she had become
inured,to being treated like an object that was always there but if it not you'd hardly miss it,she felt the thread finally break

Somehow, considering your poetic ability, and your inherent gift to see well beyond the mundane, I find it difficult seeing you ever getting inured (hardened) to anything that may just be a season of anothers growth. good introspection, many challenges in our lives ...

Isn't that the way, Eileen and it pertains
to not only relationships but to everything, really!
I've found a lot lately I need to let go of.

Eileen, this is an excellent write, it's hard to let go and to let live because sometimes "we" feel "we" cannot exist without that someone. I loved the metaphor you used in this, "the ebb and flow of water, goes on forever." Isn't that just how we feel when we are in this type of situation? Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Eileen, this is so powerful and intense, yet delicate at the same time. You have written about it so well here...the difficulty of letting go...when inside...we know it's what needs to be done. Excellent.

Relationships are like roller coasters, I suppose. You have to hang on going up then hang just as tight going down! Nothing easy, to say the least.

Let the rivers carry you away from him and speed him good will on the way, but don't let him ruin your life. You did your best and are to be commended on it and like the song I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair says, you did it. Good luck in future, whatever you may do.

A forlorn love much stronger, but like a song that continues to linger in the mind. Fortunately we learn listen to a "different tune". Love the way you began this poem, Eileen...then took us to sad, then greater heights! Beautiful, girl!!
