“Come Out and See”
I awoke quite parched one summer, in the middle of the night.
I decided to get a drink when I had a terrible fright.
Someone was in my living room, I knew it without seeing.
I could see his movement; I could hear his breathing,
I was frozen with fear to the spot, I didn’t move an inch.
I thought of many things to do that would have been a cinch.
But it was like my brain and body had a disconnect.
The two weren’t working together, I was totally a wreck.
Then I heard a little voice speaking out to me.
Oh my gosh it’s a child, who can this child be?
I reached for the light switch and turned the bright lights on.
And there right before my eyes, was my neighbor’s precious son.
“Ronny, what are you doing here, it’s the middle of the night?”
“I have no idea how I got down here, I woke up in a fright.”
Oh my darling little boy, you must have walked in your sleep.
I’ll take you back to your Mommy & Daddy, now don’t you weep.
So we both went out the back door, the same way he came down.
I realized then how dangerous it was, for there was a hole in the ground.
We were putting in a swimming pool and the hole was wide and deep.
He could have fallen in it and I wouldn’t have heard a peep.
Chills running up my spine, we proceeded on our way.
Banging on the neighbor’s window, at this awful time of day.
“What in the world’s the matter,” Donna asked of me?
“I have Ronny here out here, come out here and see.”
“Bonnie are you crazy, Ronny’s been in bed for hours, he’s fast asleep.”
“I’ll talk to you tomorrow; I’m sure all this will keep.”
“If Ronny’s there with you, then who in the world is with me?”
“Am I’m the one that’s sleep walking, come our here and see?”
