In This World, Not OF It

It doesn't take much to make me feel small.......

I have found that I can be here
Full of mirth and good cheer
I can pass for a friend or be a worst enemy
Don’t get my guard riled; I am free
This earth is mine to roam
From mountains high to seas with foam
I will not take arms against you
No matter what you try to do
I’ll support you with everything I have
I will not lie for you or your conscience salve
I will not feign that I’m good or bad
Be very vain or covertly sad
You take the path you want to follow
I have my own that walks through hill and hollow
Sallow people point fingers at me
‘cause I won’t take sides and assuage your frailties
Go your way, do what you want and how you must
Just know so much on this earth saddens me with disgust
Don’t suck me in to your plots and schemes
I have my own fortune to seek, dream my dreams
Let me sit here in peace this day
I hold my arms out to keep you at bay
Sin go away, Devil be gone
I turn for Heaven’s help at dawn.

I completely agree with this. Let them be them, me be me, do not judge or corrupt me as I am, for I am comfortable with you as you are. Huh...I found another St. Louis poet.....a good one at that. My family stems from Bunker, I know you know it.

A resounding AMEN!!! This poem, to me, is the essence of what poetry was meant to be. At its best when magnifying The Creator of Heaven and Earth. Excellent thoughts skillfully shared in a memorable way! Thankyou George .

I know we have a conscience for a reason, it is to tell us if we are doing right or wrong. Good advise George. Thank you for sharing.

You surely aren't letting the devil get you down. Neither am I, George. Not doing as other do is good advice too. Keep dreaming those dreams .ike I do and be peaceful. Live this write, and I love it too. Follows me everwhere, the devil does, and this poem is so good a write, I just adore it.
