I have posted the story of how "TAPS" was written under ARTICLES in my den. I hope you'll stop by to read it. Have a blessed Memorial Day

Day is done, gone the sun,
from the lakes, from the hills,
from the sky.
All is well, safey rest,
God is nigh.
Fading light, dims the sight,
and a star,gems the sky,
gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh,
falls the night.
Thanks and praise,for our days,
neath the sun, neath the stars,
neath the sky.
As we go, this we know,
God is nigh

Written by Captain Ellicombe's
son who was mortally wounded during the Civil War in 1862. The story is quite interesting and a testament of valor and bravery.

So those are the actual lyrics inspired by the tune? Amazing how you find this. I'll read the story. Very appropriate posting for this past weekend - a soldier in battle really only has God by his side...
