Half-Alive is the first of eight poems that were written over many years, starting in the depths of the most distressing period of my life and reaching – gradually, finally – new understanding. I didn’t plan the individual poems as a coherent collection and didn’t realize the story they told until I recently read through a number of older poems. Those poems felt like preludes to newer ones, revealing, in concert, what was really going on inside me. Though much occurred in my life before the first poem took shape and though I am still very much alive, I call this collection LifeCycle. At very least, it traverses the circular path of one of the most significant cycles in my life so far.
A new poem will be added for each of the next seven weeks.

 In false warmth, I slept,
And glacially slipped
Toward a dark solstice.
Cold, and barely alive,
I rummaged in the scree,
Longing for an equinox.

Answers evade me.

Yet hope, to my amazement,

Clings stubbornly within.

I pause for a moment

Then start the search again.

Under a rock, then a pebble.

A promising beginning, with an instant hook - title and verse - excellent! I, too, look forward to the next installment -

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Charles, many times in our lives we long for an even keel and oft times we never find it. It sounds as though you've found the peace you've longed for. I'm looking forward to your other writes.
