Anger over the price of gas seems to upset us all. I get angry but can't do anything about it. My helplessness even angers me.

There’s a rock in my hand I want to throw
I am so angry most all of the time.
When I pull in to fill up my gas tank
it is down two cents then up a dime.

The local dealer is not the real cause.
His profit’s not what makes it climb.
He’s not to blame as he changes the sign
it is down two cents then up a dime.

The fat cats and execs are prospering
and living their lives so sublime.
While I get more angry every day
it is down two cents then up a dime.

Congress tells us there is nothing to do.
They don’t really think there’s a crime.
All I know is my billfold’s getting thin
it is down two cents then up a dime.

So here I walk with that rock in my hand
watching the prices as they climb.
My car is sitting with an empty tank
since it’s down two cents and up a dime.

Message delivered and heard, LOUD AND CLEAR - I have no car, but the rising cost of fuel affects even me - through increased food costs - through the price of everything going up - except our paychecks - and these fatcat CEO's are making record billion dollar profits - GRRRRRRRRRRRRR Agree with Jeff (below) - need to find alternative solution - should have been doing that a long time ago -

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

The O-N-L-Y way is to get "OFF" gas! NO MORE FOSSIL FUELS! Even though we reduce demand, China and some others have (and WILL CONTINUE) to suck down all the remaining fossil fuels and that will drive prices up EVEN FURTHER (and fossil fuels are exhaustible - they WILL BE USED UP - there's only so much oil in the earth - once gone, it is GONE (for good!) Look into bio-deisel, and there is even an "compressed air car" - for real! 250 miles per tank - it's not super-quiet, but there's ZERO POLLUTION, ZERO FOSSIL FUEL and all you have to do fill it up is... USE AN AIR COMPRESSOR! Not available in the U.S. - but we can order them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmqpGZv0YT4
This compressed air concept also can be used for motor-scooters and so forth.

Government DOES NOT CARE - oil industry is TOO EMBEDDED in this economy; so it is up to US (you and I) to FORCE them to change! Also, used hybrids and flex-fuel vehicles. Government WAS (AND IS) too shortsighted! They SHOULD HAVE seen this a LONG time ago, and should have made the needed changes - more soy, corn, ethanol, bio-diesel, solar, hyrbids, air cars, hyrdrogen & fuel cells, etc. [end soapbox]

There's only one problem with that rock, Larry. It has this
Sysyphean quality about it. When you throw it, you better
duck because it'll probably come back at you at the pump.

You are so right Larry as we all get upset over something we have no control over and before it gets better "IF" it will get worst. Thank you for sharing. Now put down the rock, relax with a cold drink of lemonade and piece of Diabetic double chocolate fudge cake.

Newfie hugs, Rose

When will be coming that young fellow to chase the merchants and the money lenders from the step of the temple?
Is Mammon the new god? are we worshiping the golden calf again?
Just asking.

Larry, nice write...I agree, blaming the local dealer is wrong...it's the arrogance of the big oil companies hell bent on huge profits and a very lame brained congress which refuses to do anything at all. Yesterday, gas at one of our three gas stations was $4.19 gallon...just like every other place in the country. I've come to the conclusion the only thing we can do is to stop driving...period. I know that is not the total answer but it has to start somewhere.

Peace,
Dan

I agree with Mr. Ed, it is shameful to give them such big tax breaks when they are breaking us. I enjoyed your poem, I think I carry a boulder in my head, just waiting on the opportunity to throw it.

Itís down two cents and up a dime,
And our leaders should be charged with a crime.

I recently watched our so called 'leaders' drag several oil company execs to a Congressional hearing. They received $126 billion in profits last year, and our so called 'leaders' give them $18 billion a year in tax subsidies.

"Shameful!" cried our so called very concerned leaders, and they will do nothing about it at all, and when gas soon reaches $5.00 a gallon, I'm sure they'll once again drag them in for a T.V. sound byte, and yell, "Shameful!" once more.
