This poem was inspired by choking on a sip of water. It is a dark fantasy in a way, using pagan mythology and near death hallucinations to create something fantasy-like. I know it is kind of strange, but I enjoyed writing it. I thought it was an interesting new-agey way to look at life and death.

“Rising From the Sea”

Breathing through bubbles
The gasp of air forgotten
In the sweet euphoria of fear trembling on my lips
Romanticizing the fantasy of epic death
The mermaids of Aphrodite and Venus steal a kiss
The surreal moment of the last breath
Intoxicate the senses to ethereal heights
The answer to all of life’s questions
Rest in the peace of the final magic blink of an eye
The possibility of lost kingdoms glittering ahead
Beckoning with promise of acceptance and love
Eternal dream cycle continues from where it began
Awake for a shadow in the blur of nothing
Lying to rest old legends stored in sleep
Gently closing my eyes once again
Dreaming to create a new work of art
Waking up in the water of aquamarine promise
A new era is awakened
My eyes hopeful for the first time
Realizing birth and death are not opposites
Merely the journeys to places old and new
Aphrodite softly guides me into Piscean dreams
As the bubbles fill my lungs
Sealing my eyes shut for the last time
