When death comes
One is never ready
It seems like he comes
and taps you from behind
He's always not so far behind
He comes as a thief in the night
and when he comes
He trots like a troll
behind the heel of your foot
And everywhere your feet shall tread
He's always not so far
No further away than a yard
or twelve measly inches
When death comes
One is never ready
No one knows the day or the hour
when the last breath is snuffed away
like a birthday candle
blown out for the last time
When death comes
It comes to rob you of your esteem
and there's no pride
of a man laying in His grasps
When death comes it's a tragedy
The monument of the stones
are made with names
of the days of the birth
in the end which rises
under the sun
in the setting of the same
When death comes
he's ruthless
and comes as a bill collector
of a bill price
that could never be paid or regained
So much time spent
not enough time to do
When death comes
He don't even give you a chance
to put on your shoes
When death comes
Naked you came into the world
And naked you'll do the same
When death comes
One is never ready
