Keep getting it out there, People! :)) You just never know which of your poems might be given further wings to fly!

I am reposting here a tender little poem which I wrote in July 2006. It will always be special to me because of the integrity of emotion which it expresses, but I have just returned from Ireland, from the premiere of a new choral work entitled Harbouring, which has been composed by young rising star, Ian Wilson. He chose and set this poem as part of a piece for over 100 voices, accompanied by the Irish Chamber Orchestra, and commissioned as a Work Of Public Art by Wexford County Council. I was even interviewed by national Irish radio, asking how it felt to be a part of such an innovative project... !!! Pretty darn good, that's for sure. :)) A great honour and I'm still overwhelmed.

Keep up your good work - you never know just who's watching... and searching... Love, Koncert Kate xx

SAFE HARBOUR

Your body curves
a sheltering seawall
the length of me.

Your arm rounds my shoulder,
a strong protective bluff.

Washing over me,
the waves of your breath
crash and burn their
rejuvenating tides.

Here my glittering armada
is safely docked
and my little ducks swim peacefully
all in a row.

The thing that pops into my mind while reading this, is that old classic Dick Van Dyke sings on "Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang"-- "Lullabye Mountain"-- ships taking your worries out to sea--gentle breezes--and sails in the moonlight... a wonderful, cleansing feeling to it.

There are so many things that make this little beauty work. For one thing, the echoing "sh" and "s" sounds-- they sound like the crashing tide-- the "w" in "washing" is perfect--creating kind of a whooshing sound... but more than that-- it's the combination of everything together-- the imagery that's maintained throughout--clear to the ducks... and the rythm that's varied, but lilting-- the wording that is concise and simple.

You build strength by building on images--kind of like a chiasma. Take the first stanza: "Your body curves"-- my mind holds that image of body curves--skin tones--slightly rounded, and then you say "a sheltering seawall"-- my image is hardly altered at all. I lengthen the picture a bit, keep the same coloring in my mind, flatten out a few of the edges, and then you perfect my own image by saying, "the length of me." I stretch out the image forever--become the water. And now, deeply (and wetly) involved in the write, I read, "Your arm rounds my shoulder,"... I've already got the image of the forever-arm there, and your next line reinforces the coloring my mind chose to make... and so it goes.

You let the reader experience the mood in a physical way. I say, good on ya! WAY TA GO! I can see why they chose your poem. It's gorgeous. Almost makes me yearn for the sea... but then, I'd miss my bare feet squooshing around in my garden, and my own mountains holding me in their soup-bowls-- sipping me with peaked lips... --Charlie

I loved the words you used to describe this poem... integrity of emotion... The poems that I write that express the integrity of emotion I had at a particular time will always be my favorites. There are others that I have written that I can't really remember what I wrote when I read the titles... hee, hee...

The poem itself...pure perfection...it exudes safety and serenity in its words. The dual picture it paints with its imagery is one of peace, beauty and serenity as well.

Congratulations on being honored in such a way. You deserve the honor. Your poetry is superb!

Take Care,
Cryssa
