It was freezing cold and raining. We had just watched a plane leave the Boise Airport when my 7 year old son said, "I don't like it when Kate is gone. It's too cold here without her."

It’s so cold here without you.

Like a freezin’ winter rain.

And this empty bed I sleep in

Doesn’t help to ease my pain.

As I stood and watched your plane go

I could feel my love for you grow.

Like the soft summer sunshine

Warmin’ up a lonely hillside.

I don’t know when you’re comin’ home.

You never really said for sure.

But this emptiness I’m feelin’ now

Will be gone when you’re back here.

This tells the story of the warmth in a family that is captured in a young boy's words. We are better for having read it.
