It was the right time for me to fall in love.

Remembering a Dog's Love

Love at first sight, no other would do

That huge otter tail, the essence of you.

Mischievous eyes, a strut in your walk,

A calm demeanor, my heart was unlocked.

You brought handsome glory into our home,

Like a prince returned, your confidence shone.

The deepest bark, such a loud, happy sound,

Waiting for all to acknowledge who we'd found.

You were our beloved, our good dog and true

Sure, I’ll love another, but he’ll never be you.

I've experienced this sorrow so many times throughout a lifetime of loving dogs, I can fully relate... and no matter how many losses of this nature, one never gets used to them, because each one of our canine friends (or members of the family, as they are, to me) is unique. However, a lifetime without this kind of love... would have been, wouldn't be, any life at all! A most touching tribute to a beautiful dog-love.
Warm greetings from a fellow dog lover,
Alexandra*

Staggered life cycles. It's a blessing and a curse. On the one hand it provides for institutional continuation of life. On the other, it is a guarantor of periodic pain of loss. Pets are a special case. Condolences on your loss. Having recently experienced a double loss of canine members of our family, I can doubly empathize.
Best regards,
Leland

They are all so very unique, and they truly love us with everything they have. May this very special one live on in your heart and soul, forever.

So deeply sorry for your loss, he will always have a very special place in your loving heart. Though there will be others I am sure, each will be loved for who they are, very beautiful and heartfelt...

Be always safe,
Karen

It is never easy to lose a pet, Eileen. Two of my cats died within nine days of each other, last Fall, and that was utter devastation for me. Our animals are family and sometimes, they are better listeners than our human relatives. They don't criticize, nor do they judge.

I love this poem. It is a beautiful tribute to a pet, fallen or living.

Thanks,
Jill

A heartfelt tribute my friend...very touching. I have a little companion who is actually laying on the couch beside of me as I write, she came into our home about ten years ago and has been a part of the family since then. I don't quite no what I would have done without her (Boomer is her name) when our last child married and moved out. I've been thinking about what it would be like without her, as she is getting older...I know it will be tough! Touching write, well written and a beautiful picture! So sorry for your loss my friend...
Blessings from Ky.

Ahh...I'm sorry for your loss. I've had several dogs and no two are alike. This is a wonderful tribute to womans best friend. And man's too. Liz

There is nothing like the companionship of an animal; so loyal, so genuine. How compassionate that you chose to write such a loving memorial to your beautiful one. There is much we humans can learn from our four-legged friends. I loved this poem.

A lovely tribute to this dog. Many photos you have to go over and over viewing over the years. Tears are shed for these animals and many thoughts of them are kept around forever. They are never far from our heart still each and every day. My sympathy goes out to you, know how you feel, like not doing anything for a while and days can go by that you are still sad. My mother always said It's only a dog, stop crying, but she was wrong. She did not like dogs much. I know they are God's creatures and more than a dog, they are man's best friends and need to be remembered always alive or having passed on. Take the time to grieve, this dog deserves it too.
