Looking for 1966.

It was a cold day
When I visited the wall
With it’s numerous names
Searching for nineteen sixty-six
Seeking familiarity.

The black granite
From Bangalore, India
Drenched in invisible blood
And White House lies
Reminded me of that
Inch that kept me
From joining these
Immortal reminders
Marching toward
Infinity.

The stone was smooth;
Cool to finger tips;
To cheek;
To lips.

Voices beckoned,
Calling me
To fall into the abyss,
To become another name.

There were no tears.
My pain had been left behind
In a rain forest
Visited at night.

My only comfort—
I would not live forever.

(And we're doing it all over again.) I don't know anyone who was there who will talk about it. One friend says "they came one day and told me my enlistment was up and to get on the truck back to the city. I didn't know what day it was anymore, but this was good news, so I dropped everything I was toting and got on the truck. They asked me if I didn't want to take any of that stuff, and I said 'no.'" I thought this story really summed it all up.

Superb image this and the tone defined in the elegant thoughts and words.

Lloyd,

Undone by the haunted.ness and beauty of these words - a moving tribute to sacrifices, paid. However, not all are on the Wall: some live with the repercussions day in, night out - well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Lloyd, A genuinely moving tribute to the black wall and what it
represents. It seems like it's always a cold day when we visit
this Vietnam memorial. I'm expecting you to hang around for many
more productive years. -gene.
