We Were Soldiers
By La Belle Rouge

we were soldiers, he and i
he wore the uniform
i was just worn

we were young and naive
dreams to dream
love to make

a life interrupted by war
he went and i stayed
waiting for what?

he fought the bloody war
i fought the unseen war
of hopelessness

but we were both soldiers
burdened with memories
of dead dreams

of tenderness abandoned
wounded soul scars
love unmade

we were soldiers he and i
warring every day
with ghosts

of what shouldn’t have been
until we became shadows
of what should

remaining now to wage war
on our own desolation
in a long nightmare

soldiers then, soldiers now
fighting a battle
we can’t win

Very sad write. There's so much involved with PTSD. It takes so much love and understanding to cope with this disorder. Only special people could live with one that suffers from it. Thank You for this write of awareness. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

Oh how disheartening this piece is, yet it has a solemnity about it that just grabs the heart and refuses to let go. Very tender emotions, of a time apart, yet each doing their part to somehow get through....

Be always safe,

This moved me to tears! War is always Heartbreak Hell, for those that fight and for those who wait. The man or woman who experienced war's Hell never really recover and that is the tragedy of war. LOVE! Sissy

I've been researching a book on PTSD for over a year, Belle. This poem screams about that subject. Thank you for sharing it with us.

This is your very best write Belle. It screams of the frustration, anger, pain and confusion of wars then and now. The soldiers are not the only victims and the families, wifes, mothers, fathers, sisters brothers and children all are part of any war we engage in.

This pays tribute to the sacrifices made not only by our soldiers, but their loved ones - powerful, La Belle, powerful. As the daughter, sister, niece, cousin of Veterans, as well as a Veteran, myself, thank YOU for remembering.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

War is hell. :(

An extremely sad battle that many have had to fight, down through the pages of human history.

Very well said Belle. Yes, not all casualties take place on the battlefield. Many souls are also lost on the homefront for soldiers are left behind as well. Very touching write my friend. God bless.

That's Not Funny! by Vince Sanders

How come the Nation’s first Black and White stand up comedy team (Tim & Tom) couldn’t stay together? Was it educational and cultural differences–or maybe one was funnier ..
