I almost never knew your name
Could have never seen your face
I almost never saw the man
Who raised new hope, if but a trace
And I wish somehow you could know
I wish that you could see
You were the best thing
That almost happened to me
If not for one small moment in time
One moment touched by chance
Iíd still be standing by that wall
Watching the world step out and dance
I would never have believed
Anyone could be so kind and good
My eyes would still be closed
But for you, I know they would
And I wish somehow you could know
That somehow you could see
That you were the very best thing
That almost happened to me
But what do I do now
When I know Iíll never see your face
When I know there will never be anyone quite like you
When no one can take your place
When behind me stretch out endless nights
Before me, countless, uncertain days
And I try to cling to the good I saw in you
And let your light still show the way
And I wish somehow you could know
That there were some way for you to see
That you were the best thing
That almost happened to me
Not a day goes by I donít think of you
And wish that you were still here
Just to know you were alive
Even if you would never be near
So you could know you gave hope to the hopeless
You gave rain to a desert so dry
Then maybe I would not be sitting alone in this room
With nothing to do but cry
I donít know if hope died with you
Or if itís just that much harder to find
I only know the days will always be darker
For all those left behind
And I almost never knew your name
Might never have seen your face
I almost never saw the man
Who brought sunshine to this shuttered place
And I wish that somehow you could know
I wish that you could see
I never even met you
But you were the best thing
That never happened to me
