Ahhh, I love that rain.

Cleansing Rain

The grass is dry and parched brown and tan
On a dry sun-baked crispy lawn
The birds are chirping hungrily
For rain clouds to cool the sun.

The air is anhydrous and filled with dust
The heat so hot as to take one’s breath
The blistering hot glow from up above
Is like the devil’s wrath threatening death.

Then all of a sudden during the night
Dark skies burst with great drops of rain
Pure cool water falls in sheeting torrents
Beating against my window pane.

Darkness continues into the  mid-day morn
While the rain takes breaks now and then
Hinting that a t-storm is brewing
News cast said to expect one around ten.

Strangely, I’m not the least worried
I know whatever will be will be
I’ll gather up flashlights, water and food
And pray the storm will pass by me.

Sunshine is wonderful and we love it, too,
But we can’t have it all the time
Without the rain to cleanse the earth
The purity of nature would not be as sublime.

So, in life pray for the rain to come
Pray for its cleansing effect overall
On nature, the trees, grass, plants, and air
Pray for the rain to fall.

I love a great T-storm, but only when it leaves everyone safe in its wake. We've been having them daily, several a day, here in NH. Cleansing...as you say. Strong imagery. Love and Hugs,

Jeanette,

Beautifully written. It takes me back to my chidhood days, when the air was so fresh with a gentle rain.
