“Our Politicians are People,

Who When They See The Light

At The End of The Tunnel,

Rush Out and Buy More Tunnel.”

John Quinton

While all eyes are focused on Wall Street

Our extremely generous leaders in D.C.

Just handed the auto industry $25 Billion

They say they need to ‘study’ car batteries

Meanwhile, three major Japanese auto makers

Are already ‘in production’ with their electric line

Their brand new ‘all-electric’ cars debut in 2010

The Japanese batteries for their cars, are just fine

In fact, the major supermarket chains over in Japan

Are already installing ‘charging ports’ for their customers

Shoppers will be able to charge their cars while shopping

And we are just starting to study batteries – how absurd

Our nation every day now falls further behind

In the production and use of alternative energy

Yet, this election’s slogan is ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’

Because our leaders won’t get off our oil economy

Government leaders in many nations including Ireland

Have already finalized plans for wind turbine energy

Germany and Spain are already perfecting solar power

And we in the U.S. still focus on saving pennies on gasoline

Denmark has been leading the world in alternative energy

Ever since that abysmal OPEC Oil Embargo, way back in 1973

Yet, we continue to allow our leaders to lead us down ‘the oil road’

We are an extremely gullible nation, which should not fill us with glee

We now lose more prestige as a world leader, each and every day

Because we no longer demand, that our politicians are accountable

Handing over billions of tax-payer dollars, for incompetence and greed

Falling further and further behind in alternative energy – is a bunch of bull

Think Very Wisely, Before You Vote For Anyone, This Election Day;

We Have to Start Electing Leaders, Who Actually Believe In a Better Way.

“Political Campaigns Are Very Craftily Designed,

To Mislead,

To Confuse,

And To Keep The Public Eye,

From The Most Important Issues of the Day.”

Its more SNAKE OIL from Bush Inc. Once again the American people are gullible enough to suck it down! This time it carries a high price tag! Of course he was in a hurry to get the Bail-Out, to get his big supporters the cash they'll need from the overburdened taxpayer. Yet, all around here more Mcain/Palin signs going up, which when you approach one on the roadway looks suspiciously like McCain/PAIN to me.
But never doubt the ability of a "redneck" to genuflect to his own stupidity! They can never be wrong(?)... I hope they'll have to sell their fancy pickups soon...Meanwhile America marches down the wrong road... We've had fine working hybrids courtesy of Japanese companies for years. Nothing wrong with those batteries!

Wise writing Ed, and sadly, all true. A simple plan was offered this morning on the blog posted by Stan Grimes, regarding the bailout.

Oh brother! you have been too long in the forest (if there is one left I mean)

All that you say is painfully true and did you also know that Ford has a car selling in Europe that runs 60 miles to the gallon and our government forbids them to put in on our American markets?? Why?? These bail outs should not be. Our government has always used diversionary tactics to keep "we the people" from the truth...

Be always safe,
Karen

Hello Mr. Ed,

"Because we no longer demand, that our politicians are accountable"
is the best conclusion to the mess. But the American people are very resourceful, though "we are an extremely gullible nation"- is something you have to get over with, because it will get worse before it gets better.

Ed your country is already addicted to oil and I don´t think it will accept alternative ways to generate energy from the sun, ocean waves and the wind. BUt with careful selection of leaders at times of elections, it could be possible to embark on a weaning road in the future. America has a much bigger role today in world affairs today than ever before and it is in the interest of the world to maintain a flawless development pace in that country. A single juggle in the US, be it economy or political, affects the rest of the world in one way or the other. Hope situation will resume normal very soon.

Rufuz for President...He WILL force our engineers to modernize our transportation, not just keeping up with the Japs, but asking for their assistance in some way......he does not remember Dec 7th, 1941, but my family, who lost several that day, do...if I have to ride a bike, I will never buy a Jap car (though i had one in the past)...sorry, Ed, but I don't want the USA to have to use oil forever, but to become one with Jap crap cars only, is something this voter cannot tolerate...(on some things I can be forgiving but not this or 9/11) Ed

I must say I do not envy you and your fellow Americans having to pick a leader with any of the candidates that are offering but I must agree instead of pouring billions into the auto industry and oil industries if they would look at subsidizing the cost of purchasing alternate energy transportation to make it as affordable to all people not just movie stars and other celebrities it would sure get my vote

Yep - "...our leaders won’t get off our oil economy" - and Bush gets to sign the "Drill Baby Drill" bill today ($634 billion) which won't bring in a drop of oil for 7+ years, and one news report said that the State of Alaska derives 80+% of its annual revenue from sales of crude oil (they are tickled by the rising oil prices). Maybe Biden should bring that up when he and Palin debate (but I'll bet it is never mentioned). And the fault rests firmly on "We The People" who elect these predators.

What a very informative write. Most of us knew many things in Washington were in disaray but this hits many areas I had no idea of. Well done Ed and thank you for informing us of how behind we are in this field. You are so right, but what can we do? This is so frustrating for a country that was once on top of everything has fallen so low. Love, Bonnie
