Art "A Rose Among Thorns"
By Ian Daniels

A Poet Of Love
By La Belle Rouge

he was a poet of love, the kind of love
that wrings sighs from cold hearts
and tears from eyes perpetually dry
his was ambrosial poetry of the gods
his tender heart burned with passion
and fragrant beauty of forbidden love
she knew it was so, though imprisoned
in a tomb covered with rocks of pain
his trust betrayed too many times
his fire still burned, silently, covertly
he claimed he knew not love, he was
a shell who could only imagine its touch

but she knew him and sensed his fire
through layers of pain’s craggy defenses
warm ashes needing only her tenderness
to fan them into a poetic conflagration
he was a rare poet of love, unrecognized
luminous romantic diamond in the rough
heart that needed only to be pried free
from long years of cold self defense
so she held him close in forgotten dreams
kissed him with words previously unheard
and with every romantic poem he pens
her soul smiles warmly and whispers
“oh yes.... he is truly a man, a poet, of love”
