Very Naughty

He looked up with his big brown eyes,

Through little brown curls which graced his face.

“Will you ever leave us?”

His words were soft,

His expression so serious,

For I had just chastised the whole class,

For two weeks plus,

I had been gone from them,

And they, precious children,

Had been very naughty.

But, those eyes spoke of so much,

And I knew right then,

I would teach in that room,

For at least as long as that boy attended.

ADORABLE! I love the way you crafted this, Karen. The whole package is a complete hook. So seemingly effortless and yet the character, scenario and sentiments come together just right. xx

But, those eyes spoke of so much

They usually do, and we know they missed you.

The ability of a child to capture one's heart in their eyes is one that amazes me to this day. I always considered myself pretty stern when it came to children but when first my daughter and then granddaughter came along all they had to do was look at me and I'd give them the world.

How utterly endearing this is, Karen!
It can be so rewarding to teach if at
least one can make us feel this way...
