The water slips then drips off the soaked orange tree
As the sparrows take a bath in the watery mud below
The scene here mesmerizes me in the desert’s dawn
Life is alive despite the desert I see off in the distance

Every morning here in the aching light in my yard
Life abounds just below the mountain a walk away
There I can hear the lone coyote’s hungry howl
As the birds bath below my orange tree and frolic

As I water my garden the doves begin to line my fence
A knowing has begun that once done I’ll fill the feeder
A whole new dance begins as they fight for the best seed
As the coyote howls on the mountain above my yard

The Earth has turned again and morning life replays here
In the desert below the mountain of the howling coyote
The bird’s dance and play under the orange tree in my yard
I guess life is good replaying once again in the aching dawn
