... it isn't about me -- it's about all of us ....

Image (c) 2008, Karla Dorman

History sitting all around, wearing
the brave faces of men and women
who served in peacetime and in
war:  the city pauses to honor those

who donned the uniform for their
country.  Many are old, now.  But
when the Anthem plays, their salutes
are as crisp as ever; let "Amazing

Grace" be skirled by a lone piper or
"Taps" be bugled ... watch the tears
well up for those missing from their
ranks.  Like my friend, Ernest, who

passed away in July.  I remember
the heroes who've gone before me:
my Daddy; his brothers; my Mom's
brother; once again I thank the Lord

for those still here:  my brother.  My
cousins.  And while I also served, it
isn't about me -- it's about all of us;
whether Air Force, Army, Coast

Guard, Marine, or Navy, we all did
our part.  We are a team; we are a
united front; active duty or Veteran,
we did it so you wouldn't have to.

Amen, Karla, amen. I have two big regrets in my life, one of which is that I couldn't control my weight long enough to follow in my father's footsteps (I had my heart set on becoming a coastie, though.).

The problem with a united front is that our domestic enemies aren't in front of us but scattered everywhere around us.
It will be a paintaking job to weed out one by one from our mist, if we all are willing to bend down and mercilessly pluck them out!
