With Thanksgiving around the corner and those wonderful tasty pies and desserts to accompany our feast, I'm thinking of food--but I'm also thinking of health.

Health Fuel

Growing old is wonderful
Because the other alternative is death
Therefore, cling to your life, stay healthy
And cherish every life-giving breath.

Keep the body busy with activity
Dance joyously to your favorite tune
Go for a long walk in the afternoon
Or take an evening stroll under the moon.

Nurture the body and mind daily
By eating healthy foods you need
Forget those words, “I don’t like…”
And realize that food acts like a seed

What goes in your mouth can help or hurt you
By making you sick or keeping you well
You should feel good all the time
If not, mind and body will quickly tell.

We love sugar, we love fast food
We cater to the things we want and desire
Thus, sometimes destroying good health
Before we realize what foods we require.

So here’s a clue to help you with diet;
If you wake up feeling less than good that day
Consider what you’ve been eating lately
And start a balanced diet without delay.

Hi I can't say that growing old is wonderful in our case. If one is not reallyhealthy , and in good physical shape , it can get yuo down. It seems taht one thing afetr another happens and no matter how hard one treis to get better , something else comes a long to bring ones spirits down again. At least I'm alive and doing the best I can...keepin busy and active is good for all concerned...M

Once again, wise advice. I can't remember the last time I had fast food. My weakness is chocolate, which is good in moderation because it's an anti-toxidant. Now...if only I can master the moderation part...lol. You're right, too. Bad foods make a body feel like a slug. I saw a special on fast food studies. Some guy ate at McDonald's every meal, everyday for a month. In that time his health declined greatly; he gained weight and he had no energy. Well done, Jeanette. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

Jeanette,
No truer words have been spoken. I must regroup and go back to my healthy lifestyle of eating what is good for me. Sometimes we tend to punish ourselves and deceive our minds into thinking that chocolate cake is actually good for you.. Well there are some good things about chocolate cake, but as a metaphor, it is enticing, delicious and habit forming...I can only think of one good thing that should have these qualities and that could be considered x-rated! lol
Anyway, thanks for the food for thought, wonderful poem.
Peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

Good write Jeanette and I do hear you my friend. However, having looked death in the face several times over the years, I soon realized that all we are guaranteed is this very moment. One day, most of us will end up in a hospital or a nursing home, and we will be knocking on Heaven's door. When that happens to me, I want to be able to say that I am there because I enjoyed the ride God granted me and had nothing but the best of what He had to offer. I can't imagine myself in a bed somewhere knowing that I might be dying of nothing but a good, healthy balanced diet. As far as exercise goes, that is a must of course. And really, I do eat a balanced diet. Usually after dinner every other day, following my after dinner cigarette, I make sure I wash down my 12 ounce Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate bar with a 12 fluid ounce can of Sam's Choice Keg Style, Caffeine Free Root Beer. Now that's what I call health food. Dark Chocolate is a must; none of that Milk Chocolate for this guy. That stuff will kill ya for certain. Well said and written Jeanette. God bless and have a wonderful day.
