A Daughter's Story by Winter Giovanni

Mommy, why do I sneeze, breathe and sometimes wheeze?
The skin on my face makes me feel like a disgrace,
My arms, my fingers, and even my legs
are all scarred up from this skin disease I wish was dead.
I know I have asthma and yes, even eczema
but
why o why mommy must they keep joking me,
all I want is for them to be friends with me.
They joke me, laugh at me, teased me,
while being mean to me.

I feel so sick saying to myself,
can someone please help me not take it to the left.
I cry, I laugh, and want it all to end.
All just because no one would be my friend.

I am a good person, I really am.
But no one even gives a damn!
I lost most of my hair, wishing it would grow
guess I will have to settle for that hair weave though.

Mommy, I'm glad that I'm older now,
my skin is finally that pretty brown.
I no longer feel like a disgrace.
All I know is that I do have a pretty face.
