'Scope on sniper rifle . . . '

Snipe-hunter skilled

Aim-kill the elusive

But first-out flank

Warm body-skirmish.

He looked-sighted

Scope on sniper rifle

Squeezed the trigger

Warm body now erased.

Quickly left the scene

Careful-left no trace

Wasn’t seen or heard

Mourners cried-hated.

Could kill from a mile away

High-powered rifle made

from coffin; wood-bullets

used to nail coffin shut.

Took life after life-tried

not to look at their face

or wedding ring-just get

the bloody job done.

Then one day had to take

out wife’s father-couldn’t

Loved her too much-he

became the next victim.

Was with his wife and kids

Never heard the bullet

Snuffed out at thirty three

Shot by his father-in-law.

You write great tragedies, Lance. This one makes me wonder who the lovely hero was who couln't pull the trigger that last time. A great plot for an action movie.

Survival of the fittest? Or survival or the soulless? Reminds me of the Coen Bros. movie, No Country For Old Men. A different morality for sure. Interesting and causes me to think. Blessings, J'nia
