“No dog is born vicious;

Vicious human beings,

Attempt to make them so.”

Mr. Ed

Born into sheer cruelty

Her only purpose, to kill

Enslaved, by dog fighters

For profit, and sick thrills

But Grace, was too gentile

In her soul, no desire to fight

So, they began using her as ‘bait’

Her left eye was mangled one night

And what good was she to them now?

So, they cruelly dumped her in the wood

She was then picked up by ‘animal control’

To be put to death – ‘for the common good’

Why should tax-payers have to pay for this waif?

She was starving, her ulcerated eye needed repair

Thousands of other dogs, would soon be arriving

Besides, how many people in America, even care?

But by the grace of God, a caring group found her

Their mission – to rescue deserving souls like Grace

They whisked her off to a modern veterinary hospital

Surgery was performed, on her mangled eye and face

And a most compassionate woman and her little girl

Now fell in love with Grace and provided her a home

This is the kind of happy ending, we rescuers live for

To every caring animal advocate, I dedicate this poem

No dog is born vicious;

Vicious human beings,

Attempt to make them so.

We need tougher animal cruelty laws,

Not tougher laws against animals.

And if you cannot possibly adopt

A deserving waif like Grace yourself,

Please help support animal rescue groups,

In your area, who can only continue their work,

If far more people soon decide that all life is precious.

A heart wrenching poem Ed. I don't understand the human cruelity in this world. I'm glad Grace was rescued and went to a good loving home.....M

Well said - All life is precious - especially human life
How precious is the life God gave us
How much we really tresure it
To take a life is such a waste
To give a life is such a blessing
Should not we be all that God ask us
The rock on which we built this country

Hi Mr. Ed
Animal suffering makes my blood boil. I guess until man can learn to love his fellow man, countless poor animals have little hope. Thanks for your words. Liz

Cruel indeed...unthinkable. I'm glad you brought it to the forefront. Animal cruelty is a brutal truth. We can all do more. Hugs, Elizabeth

This is the worst in humans: to exploit the helpless for money! Once ignored or even considered acceptable WE need to evolve, not the animals. I would prefer to err on being TOO CARING and not the opposite.
So the one neighbor is a little annoyed that I've fed the cats in the woods during the cold spell - it's my house that is sprayed not his and now HIS cat "likes" me too much. But we're civil about it. I differ in that I don't think pets should be outside at night in freezing weather
I'm a fanatic I guess...
Next time, michael

This is so wonderful Ed, if everyone would open their hearts. Yes I agree with you, the laws for crulity to animals are not stiff enough. Let them feel the pain they put those poor helpless creatures through.

My God that is incredible Ed, I just this morning, just about to get up, wrote a short poem, about pleading for help for all these little creatures, for despite that I write and donate and do whatever I can, the cruelty continues big time, the poem ask for help, have I missed some new, diffferent bright Ideas, other ways of doing things, and am I preaching to the choir as Walt so correctly stated, what else, anybody? I haven't posted it yet, but I'll call it help needed! God bless your kind heart! Jasmin Horst

Yes, no one from the Fauna has born vicious, yet, we have vicious humans that call themselves Big Wild Life Hunters that hunt from an helicopter and are centerfold pictured with their "prize"
Now, someone tell me about viciousness?

Wonderful write about a pit that is anything but mean! Any dog does not deserve this kind of barbaric treatment; any dog will turn mean if people treat them cruelly. I knew a beautiful solid black Pomeranian who had been abused, and every time we'd walk by him, he'd growl, go nuts! No amount of sweet talk could calm him down; I felt so sorry for him! Karla had a half-chow, half-wolf who'd been abused, and he turned out to be the best dog she'd ever had! Powerful message in this one, so glad that there are caring people willing to take these abused animals and love on them! God bless 'em all, every one! And God bless YOU!!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :)

Mr. Ed,

Absolutely beautiful. I get nervous around pits, but only because of their "reputation," it's not their fault their owners use them to fight or as bait (horrible!). Still, what if one, who had never caused problems before, suddenly attacked?

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
