A poem about coming home after being gone far too long. |
|
California
The Road
Saddens me today
It never has before
Life is nothing more
Than moments
Of sadness or euphoria
Summer/Highland Falls
The best song
Billy Joel ever wrote
I hear those words right now
My coffee hot
My cigarette lit
The white lines
To California
My home
I should feel joy
It’s been far too long
My California
Forget the politics
Hardships
Controversy
Misconceptions
Of those
Who have no clue
Somewhere
On the coast
Find a beach with a shower
A job with some hope
A sun that feels good
Upon my face
But I’m not joyful
Only tired
Perhaps I’m coming home
Only to die
Or to lay down
And feel the sand
Between my toes
A silent moment
When the soul
Whispers
Thank you

Leigh,
California, a wonderful place with its many beaches. But so sad with all its natural woes and man made ones. It seems as though you love it, and would like to forget all the negative. Well written.

Leigh, you take me with you on your journey home.
There is a lot of me in this poem, this yearning
to lie down and feel the sand between my toes, the
sounds of the shore, the pull of the sea. Thanks. -gene. |
