Artistic poetry about California's vast homeless problems and how most people (especially the VERY wealthy) seem to ignore it and even the lack of those to work in their rotting fields.
**************

California Scent

One can smell the money in California.
Besides flowers, rich widows, weeds bathe in perfume.
Odors wallow in the ripe fields, food unraveling,
molding in clinched claws of companies ungiving.
When you’re in California, beware of quick sand
lest you unwittingly fertilize that vast land.

Crops, seasoned with money, stand tall and ever proud.
If one stood close enough, they’d hear plants laugh out loud.
Their corn is all ears and grains are all whispering …
tanning themselves … become parched, wrinkle, withering.
Drinking leads to wanting more when more isn’t there.
Other states are pumping water till there’s just air.

Autos, mansions, more … glitter California.
Material things pale … when water is no more.
One will scent decay wherever they may go, pay
for misusing earths’ wealth till it’s been drained away.
Too many emissions choke men filled with pure greed.
Hell to the future! Forget others and their needs!

One can smell the money in California.
Oiled hands shuffle cards … a wee dab will ‘do’ ya!
Fame and fortunes quickly rise only to recede.
No one ever has enough to quit! Must succeed!
Odors waffle in parks, cities, under bridges,
humanity discarded. Death haunts those ditches.

A most descriptive picture of what California as a whole has become, just one of many reasons why we left. A sad legacy left from a once great state...
