Grandma (Nokomis)

Black obsidian eyes
Dark nimble hands
You taught me to bead
While you painted the sunset
You taught me
To NEVER GIVE UP THE FIGHT

Years after your time
You fought in my war
Shared in my glory & shame
You guided me home
When I was abandoned
And left for dead

Many years
After your time
I had to let you go
You had to let me go
You had to go home
To Lake St. Clair
To be there
To guide
All our relatives home
As the leaves fell
Over the years

Someday
I will cross to the other side
And join you all

So we can gather again
Tell stories
And guide
Our descendants HOME
So they too
Can join us
And tell their stories

This is an ever unending circle
Of how
Our People
Never Die
