Say you had a juicy apple
And a drier gourd, And,
You were hungry, not so much
For food, for sustenance.

You know a bruise on the apple
Will rot its fruit. Should you
Preserve it? Take a bite? Pare
Away its inevitable death?
Its sustenance?

You know the gourd is aged
And impervious to bangs and bumps,
But, thick-shelled, and hard to eat,
Raw. But, that is what the situation is.
Opposite sustenance.

Which would you choose?

If I was that hungry I would take them both, saving the sweetness of the apple for last. Life works better that way....

Be always safe,

My sweet tooth would over rule good sense and I would no doubt eat the apple first. As a metaphor of life this poem offers and interesting challenge...for in life we often face the same challenges. It is also interesting you used an apple (the forbidden fruit) in this one...Freudian slip or intentional?
