A darkening flag
upon the steps
wounds the sky,
with desecration.
Our children honor
the valiant dead
with burning stripes
and dying stars
Some say it's time
for a useless law,
maybe an Amendmant
enforcing civility.
I cannot cheer
conflicted interest
Nor defend my heart
from license.
Ignite my dreams
with your liberty.
Make a pyre of my pride.
This is being free.
