One can not forget about Vietnam when Memorial Day hangs over the horizon. I am a Vietnam veteran and I remember what I can't seem to forget: but thanks to God I am healed and we are still free! Peace!!

I remember dead soldiers.

Marines, the Army, and Sailors,

the Air Force eagles in the air!

Yes, many shattered lives,

like pure crystal broken glass,

thousands of pieces glittering,

and utterly disassembled!

Will the pieces become one again?

So many falling comrades that-

their numbers are embarrassing!

They waddle in the mire, murk, and mud.

Thrrough miles or rice paddies and booby traps.

In their watery sepulchers,

in a war that nobody wins!

We thought we were heros,

but were treated like the enemy,

by our fellow Americans!

A conflict not of our chosing.

In a war that some people want,

also the war that nobody wins,

in a war as you see dont' end!

I could see the disdain in their eyes,

baby killers where chants and cries,

and shamed to be a sailor!

Yes, I remember back ;in the day,

I have learned how to forgive you!

Happy Memorial Day and God

Bless America!!!

Thank you kind one, for protecting our land but of a great sacrifice. One day there will be no more wars or sadness or tears. I'm looking forward to that day!

Blessings and Peace,

Thank you for your sacrifice, a deeply affecting glimpse of war.

No, as hard as we try we can never forget, so many good, lost men, lives cut short for no good reason and for those who returned, the wrath they were handed. For shame on all who refused to understand. You strike a nerve with this piece and bring back memories long set aside. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Memorial Day and thanks for all you have done and continue to do....

Be always safe,

Thank you, first of all, for your service - welcome home, soldier, welcome home. (((HUGS)))

(Made a promise years ago, to thank every Vietnam Veteran, because they didn't get the welcome home they so rightfully deserve - consider yourself thanked and hugged.)

Powerful poem and thank you, as well, for remembering WHY we remember those who gave all - well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. *salute*
