The lyrics to this song lament the author's being too old and having lived a too sheltered life to write A Good Country Song.

A Good Country Song

(While participating in a songwriters critique group for Country music I was criticized by the younger members of the clique for being too old and having life a too sheltered life to write Country music.  So I wrote this song in response.)

I always wanted, to have lots of money and fame

To write Country music, have big stars remember my name;

I never made Nashville, and I should have known all along

I've been too good, to write a good Country song.

                     Refrain

I ain't drunk enough whiskey, to write a good Country song.

Nor chased enough women, or done hardly anything wrong.

I've never been wicked, and I wouldn’t know how to get stoned.

I've been too good, to write a good Country song.

Trains make me nervous, and trucks are expensive to buy

I still live with Mother, so I’ve had no heartaches to cry.

I've never been lonely, ’cause I never started to roam

I've been too good, to write a good Country song.

                    Refrain

I ain't drunk enough whiskey, to write a good Country song.

Nor chased enough women, or done hardly anything wrong.

I've never been wicked, and I wouldn’t know how to get stoned.

I've been too good, to write a good Country song.

I can teach ya how to get stoned & since my tastes don't lean in the country song direction, I got to say there isn't such a thing as a good country song...though this one is damn close, anyway...Ed

Hi Henry, Just the fact that you wrote this is an answer to that younger crowd. And the lyrics just may be more true than one believes. Thank you for sharing...

Henry,

I think this is a fantastic country song! No one is too old or sheltered, old is a word, it's how you feel.
