Two videos inspired these lines. I'd be grateful if you watched them.

1st video (c) 2009, naturalsciencefan

2d video (c) 2009, rbonser

each one a prayer sent
up to remind us of those
who have tasted war -

what i think of when
i hear the concussive thud
of mortars firing -

soldiers and sailors,
airmen and Marines and those
who've been left behind -

when i see the bombs
bursting overhead ... there but
for God's Grace, go i.

yes indeedy, Karla. Never stop saying it... or thinking it. Over here, I live only a few miles from our biggest army infantry training base on the Dorset heathland and coast... inspite of all the "war-scapes" the natural scenery is STILL stunningly beautiful and seemingly inexhaustive. I shudder when I think how quickly our forces go from the peaceful serenity of here... to the mortal dangers of... there... Hearing the guns firing every day sure reminds me... as does your poem. xx

Christmas - only days away; plastic snowmen and glowing reindeer adorn the lawns of neighborhoods all across America. All is calm, all is bright, and yet there is something tragic..
