I could see my little friends
basking in the sun.
Their brown and olive bodies,
so slick, so quick they run.
I sit upon my porch door step,
betwixed and fixed on their appearance.
They marvel me and startle me
as i wait for a clearance,
to run and pounce upon them,
hoping to retrieve my prize;
forgetting my black and tan body,
my clumsy, frumpy size.
I hear my master calling
but choose to ignore,
as my friends, the lizards, are scuttling
up and down the garden wall.
I am queen of my castle,
marking my territory regularly.
I show them who is boss in this menagerie!
Noone knows them like i do,
as I sit mesmerised day by day.
I watch their tongues flick in their prey,
I look at them, they look at me,
together we're almost family.
I have tried all sorts of maneuvers
to creep up upon MY prey.
I've dug and burrowed in the soil,
but the lizards have had their way.
I have hidden behind bushes,
but that too is futile and useless,
as all they do is laugh and smile,
on my endeavours and my plans.
As the sun draws to a close,
I too must adjourn,
for tomorrow is another day,
for this Daschund dog to learn! |
