another poem about aging

We age at different rates, we humans,

some young at sixty, others old at

fifty, and then there are some who

seem to never age at all, the Dick Clarks

of the universe, who drank from

the fountain of youth, or worshipped

at the altar of perpetual non-aging,

and we look at them in wonder,

their skin still smooth, not showing

the signs of years worth of eating

and drinking all of the wrong

things, not thin enough to fold

into origami, yet not thick enough

to bear the brunt of sticks and

stones and words too unkind to

hear, much less endure.
