The Beckoning Of Spring

Winter is almost over. Its end will bring the arrival of spring and warmer weather.

As it approaches, I am once again longing for the mountains and valleys of Vermont. Each year they call to me and I'm filled with the desire to "go back home again".

In April flowers begin to bloom, filling the air with fragrant smells. Earth becomes a mixture of multicolors as plants burst forth in bold array.

Cows can be seen grazing in green pastures near farms which are hundreds of years old. Gardens are plowed and readied for planting.

On some mornings, a slight haze shrouds lakes, valleys, pastures and tiny hamlets, creating a mystical appreance. When the golden sun rises higher in the bright blue sky, the mist disappears showing a fresh new sun filled land.

Life abounds every where as new births fill the country side and farms. Squirrels and chimpmunks scamper about while ducks and geese peacefully float in ponds and rivers. Sparkling lakes and streams team with different varities of fish.

The Green Mountains beckon to one and all, inviting them to Come, Visit and Stay awhile. Peace and Tranquility abide with in the beauty of the forests and glens of this evervescent land ....

Remonds me of the early days on the farm when I was growing up. You hit it on the nose.

Your mother loved the Green Mountains of VT and loved to come here in the late summer when our mountains were in their glory.

Nice job Mary.

Hi MaryGrace, You've done a beautiful piece of writing. The Chamber of Commerce at both the state and local level applaud your poem and I suggest you submit for publication to as many as you have addresses for.
I was born in Vermont in 1933 and left in 1951 and have only returned for a few days visit during the summertime. Every so often there is a nice day in VT such as you describe. The other 362 days all have faults many of them serious. I never learned to grin and bear them as
the local stoics and liars do. s/henry

Been a New Englander all my life, MG, so I know where you're coming from. There's no other place in the world quite like the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire. God bless.

Your descriptions are wonderful and paint a picture of a place most folks might want to visit. I've never been to Vermont, but I've heard it is a beautiful state. Start packing, lady, and do enjoy.
