Thank you Ed for putting this thought in my head. Life isn't always easy and some of us don't have a say in how life goes. We get laid off or we take ill and jobs just aren't available, believe me we were there. How often I wondered where the next meal was coming from or hiding from the Landlord because I just didn't have the rent, making sure I had lots of candles for when the lights were cut, yes I can go on and on. I soon realized only one person could help me. That person was me. I often wish the world was equal but it's not and it seems some are destine to struggle through life.

A List To Live By
April 24, 2010
By Rose Marie Rideout

Life is like a relationship
We’re together till the end.
We have to make the best of it,
No need to pretend.

Life isn’t always easy,
Stop and look around,
No matter how we try,
Too the poorhouse we are bound.

I think I’ll make up the rules,
Make my life as a game.
Making all the right moves,
So I don’t go insane.

I’ll take a slip of paper,
Make myself a list,
What’s really important,
Nothing can be missed.

I have to pay my rent,
Heat and lights are a must,
Food’s a neccessity,
My instinks I must trust.

I don’t REALLY need beer,
My smokes are killing me,
Just for one month,
I’ll have only neccessities.

I’ll take advantage of all nature,
To entertain me everyday,
I watch the waves, walk the beach,
Birds will sing, animals jump and play.

I’ll listen to sweet music,
I’ll read a book and watch live TV,
I’ll for once make my life’s rules,
To enjoy life for eternity.

I stopped putting the cart before the horse,
I bought what was on my grocery list,
I paid the bills and accepted life,
So my life I wouldn't miss.

Sounds like great advice to me! We ALL have our ups and downs in life; those trials we must endure are sent to test our mettle. Well penned, my lovely friend!

These are very wise thoughts well-shared, Rose. As for relying on oneself, you have reminded me of a series of haiku that I have written on that theme. I have not posted them yet but I can certainly relate to what you have shared here. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

Right right down the line!! I needed this!! Be surprised if anyone who reads it doesn't feel the same way. Fate has a terrible habit of pulling the rug out from under us, then dropping down to pin and beat the (tar) out of us. Sometimes goes on so long, gets to feel normal.
Get to thinking we deserve it. N O T !! Just what's in the cards, right? Your list is a good 'un, and I thankee kin'ly.

Keep smelling those roses. (So what if they belong to some rich
such-'n'-so ;)}

Hugs and a Big Bouquet of Stolen Wildflowers,

Not only a list to live by, but word to live by. So many can do without so much especially in these days of "hard times." well written and extremely thoughtful, Rosie.

Anyone that has to come to grips with all of the 'life' stuff has to have a starting point, which is where your third verse is so important.

Okay when you were here last Thursday you stole the list I had made off my fridge...didn't ya cuz. lol, good write with a lot of important messages contained. It is often hard to truly see the forest for the trees when we are struggling. It is also often easy to forget how hard others have it even when we have been there ourselves. Bottom line is life is a beach...high tides and lows.

Life can be a collection of glass marbles, equals yet different in color's shades and sizes, "happy" ones and "darker" ones, and heavy in your pocket, reassuringly about possession...of life.
