True story...can laugh about it now.

It was in the winter
Of '58' or '59'
I awoke to find
My sister playing church

She had a lite candle in her hands
Now she knew better
Then to mess with fire
She was six or seven

Everyone else was asleep
My father and two
Older sisters
Were in Neverland

I took the candle
From her little hands
Threw it into the wastebasket
The wastebasket had paper

Flames shot up past
The top of the basket
I quickly doused it
With water. ..

One of us dumped
It outside. ..
I believe it was me
On the side of our house

There was snow
About four or five inches
That's why we dumped
It on the side

We thought we were
Out of the woods
My mother had been
Out of town

The day my mother
came back
She was on the side
Of the house

She was speaking
To our next door neighbor
Questioned. ..
About what was dumped there

The neighbor said it looked
Like a dog dragged it there
I can't recall if we were asked
But my sister tattletailed

We both got spanked
I didn't think it was fair
Afterall I was the one
Who found her with the candle

I was eight or nine
When this happening occurred
I did take that candle
I did throw it in the wastebasket

        What was I thinking ?

D.L, it looks like all children have stories of being airheads with fire (I do), and being spanked unfairly (I do). Not everyone tells it like you do, though...

Wow, what a story! Took me back to my childhood spankings.
