ďI love cats,

Because I love my home,

And after a while,

They become its visible soul.Ē

Jean Cocteau

It seems to me, like it was only just yesterday

When a tiny kitten adopted me, in a parking lot

I was on a job, down in Montgomery, Alabama

It was an August evening, so very humid and hot

He came bounding right up, dancing at my feet

And soon, he hopped right inside my rental car

Before I knew it, he and I, were on an airplane

Little Monty, had a real hankering, to travel far

My spouse immediately fell in love with him

She soon began calling him her black panther

How he now loved, to stretch out, on her lap

With his deep, loving, totally contented, purrs

Our tiny Monty soon became our affectionate Big Monty

And, he always helped welcome new orphans, to our place

His new best friend, we called Fat Louie, had arrived one day

They so quickly bonded; both now, had a big smile on their face

But much too quickly, both old age and diabetes, came a calling

Now, our Monty Boy never fussed, about his daily shots of insulin

Both Fat Louie, and our good old Turbo Dog, took good care of him

But we all knew deep in our hearts, it was a battle Monty couldnít win

Our dear old Monty Boy, has left us now

Thereís a very somber silence, in our home

Thick wet tears, keep falling down my face

As Iím sadly attempting, to write, his poem

Monty taught me much about love and courage

As each of my many animal friends, always do

Losing one of the truly vibrant souls in our home

Has today, given everyone around here, the blues

It seems to me, like it was only just yesterday,

When a tiny kitten adopted me, in a parking lot;

I was on a job, down in Montgomery, Alabama,

On an August evening, Iím so grateful, that I got.

Oh, Ed. I am so sorry. Two of you are devastated, I know.

I still get tears in my eyes when I pass our Rosie's tiny grave. She passed more than ten years ago.

Bless you for being the loving couple you are. Won't be the same, but Monty will always be with you. Is too good a friend not to.

I know that feeling of loss. My seashore died and I replaced her with Thomasina. Seashore was all gray and 12 years old when death took her suddenly out of my life. I do not like pets to die, but that is life too, and we can only hope to see them again peacefully in the future.

It is never easy to say goodbye to a sweet loved one. Silly me I've never heard of feline diabetes let alone insulin shots for cats. Hats off to your efforts. Patrick

With parting comes sorrow but with remembering comes joy. Choosing to love is a bittersweet path. May your memories be cherished... and may a tiny bundle of Monty-Mark II arrive mewing at the door of your heartstrings just as soon as... I feel this, Dad. My old Willow was a near gonner a couple of weekends' ago and I have been nursing her back to health these past many days... Her years are now catching up with her and it is painful to see and tear-jerking to realise. big hugs to you, xx

And what a beauty he is! May his soul be waiting for you someday. I'm sorry but this story is even better than the ones in your previous book. YOu have so many and have done so much for the homeless animals. I've been feeding some strays here on my porch and you know they really understand even when they don't want to come inside (as often with ferals here in Florida) They really know who cares for them. Even the unaltered "stray" who actually has an owner who barely cares for him, has stopped pissing on my house, now he comes up and rubs my legs because we became friends! You are right it isn't hard to love an animal and feed it. Some people act like it was a chore or crime! I hope my Newton doesn't get diabetes! He's 14 this year...
Best always, MIKE

Oh Ed, you truly bring tears to my eyes with the loss of Monty. I am so sorry and somehow the pain never really goes away does it? Monty is at peace now residing with St. Francis where he will find comfort as you continue to keep his memory alive. May God bless all of you...

Be always safe,

Very sad, Ed, but one of the undeniable facts of life for those of us that love animals, and having to put down one that we so dearly love is always heartbreaking. So sorry, my friend.

I can understand your sad feelings, Ed, but I'm so happy for the years he gave to you and Rebecca...and the years you gave to Monty! Fortunately, I still have four of my eight indoor cats; their love is what gets me up each morning and keep me "going" each day. I share in the tears for your loss, dear friend...

I can truly identify with this. Ours was a black kitten named Frisby because she loved to chase her tail. One day we realized that she had seazures. Now she is gone and has left an empty spot where she used to be. In part, she is still there.

Ah yes tears at this time. A lump in the throat.
The day we had to put our collie to sleep brings back these feelings yet as I held his head he knew he was with his master and the injection was so soothing I thought, yes, when the time comes that's what I'd wish. Cats and dogs do not live as long as we do, so if we have cared for them during their short lives, they are grateful. Well Mr Ed. I shed a tear for you today.

This loving heart of yours spill tears from my eyes too, for I feel your hurt, it's twice as hard I think, to lose a pet that adopted you. But gone he's not, look into your heart, there he is, don't neglect, keep on looking to acknowledge him where he is, so he knows he's home. Bless ya, and hugs! Jasmin Horst
