.

the sea was a perfect blue
on that golden summerís day
ambling upon its wet
cushion of sand

the sun shone from a distance
sparkling on the sea
reflections sparkled in
the toddlers clear blue eyes

ambling in the shallows
saline breeze ruffled hair

hunting for seashells
different shapes different sizes
grasped in tiny hands

sun reflecting in rock pools
tip toe from pool to pool
holding a little bucket
full of treasures found in sand

tiny fish, tiny crabs
clutched in little hands

stars reflect on a sea of glass
he dreams of treasures
hidden in the sand

I find myself lamenting
whom Iíd once held
hand in hand

I think this is so beautiful and full of clear rich imagery. I especially love the first verse. Just perfect. I can almost taste the salt mist and sand. Absolutely lovely. -Abigail

Oh my Andy..this is bittersweet..such beautiful memories..and you sure brought me back to coconut island when I was just a wee one..loved collecting sea shells..still do :)

Can't help myself, Andy, all I could think of while reading it was "The Walrus and the Carpenter" by Carroll. And then I hit the last phrase and winced at the injustice I'd done you. I'm sure his memories of you are just as poignant. --Charlie

The shore will do this to you, the memories come rushing in just like the tide...Keep a stiff upper lip, you are loved by him no matter what.

I know you miss your son, and I am sorry to hear your pain in that last paragraph...but the rest of the poem brings back such good memories of my days on the beach during my own childhood...e
