IN MY DREAMS

You inhabit my dreams 

     claiming squatter’s rights

          on my nocturnal spirit

              Your warmth is my soulhead’s pillow

                    your laughter – satin sheets of sinless

                         joy on my memory

                              If my sleep is good

                                  you are there to make it so

                                       to give me rest and respite

                                         In the winter-length nights

                                              you are mine again and again

                                                    we are a single entity

                                                           stronger than when separate

                                                            Like weak strands of string

                                                      we entwine and embrace

                                                 to become a rope-strong

                                            line to our salvation

                                   We explore forgotten things

                              we thought we better knew

                         but obviously not well enough

                      It may never come to pass

                  in the world of wide awake

              that we share lives again

         But for as long as life

     permits me to have them

 you will inhabit my dreams
